MY FIRST TIBETAN TERRIER

hera

Hera was the egoist in our family. She slept on the table, drank tea with pleasure and hunted rats in the fields so I got plenty of exercise. Coming because mummy calls!? What!?

This lady maybe looks like Gizmo with her non typical ears and short legs, but she was a tibetan so real and she let the whole world know that! Hera was the queen in our house, she made the rules and we couldn't do anything but adore her!

Two stories about Hera:

WHEN HERA CAME INTO MY LIFE
I wonder how I have managed without tibetans before?

A friend of mine was going to buy a Tibetan Terrier, she called me one day telling me that the puppy had arrived. Why don't you come over and look? She lived close to me so I ran over and what was meeting me?! Well, two little puppies, one white and one black. I only saw the black one. Eva, the breeder of the puppies was there too.
Hera, the name I later gave her, saw only me and I saw only her. I didn't know which of the puppies my friend had bought but I didn't care. Hera, the little black one, was mine! During the first seconds we saw eachother we both knew...

I attacked Eva and told her that the black puppy was mine without knowing if the puppy was for sale. I would probably have taken the puppy with me anyway. I think Eva saw what had happened between the pup and me. Lucky for me, my friend owned the white pup and Eva followed me home with Hera to talk. That's what happened when Eva allowed me to have Hera.
When Eva was on her way out my daughter Ulrica came home from school and she went furious! We already had four cats and one Shetland Sheepdog called Alice, seven months old. Alice was was my daughters dog and of course my daughter thought it was enough. Hera directly understood that Ulrica was a girl you could tease real mad and that was what Hera did.

At the time I didn't know how an adult Tibetan Terrier looked like or how they were in temperament. I didn't know anything about the breed. But I can promise you that Hera showed us!
I am an auto-didact and used to help people with problematic dogs, but psychology with Hera didn't work!
It became a period with tears, anger, despair and laughs with little Hera when I tried to teach her like other dogs. The whole thing ended with Hera teaching me. You could never be the top dog with Hera!

One of Heras fantastic achievements (probably the funniest for Hera) was when she sneaked out from our home when Ulrica arrived from school. She first disappeared to the playground and slided down the slide with the kids and then she ran up in a climbing frame. I kept calm but after one hour I asked my neighbours for help to catch her. Hera hung out in the same area and that was lucky but we couldn't catch her.

We tried everything, raw liver and some other delicious candy but the little lady was too smart. It all ended with 20 people who tried to chase and caught her. THE ONLY THING HERA DID WAS LAUGH AT US!!!
I gave up and thanked the people for trying to help me, but now they could go home, after three hours! I think Hera thought it was the funniest "come-and-catch-me-game" she had ever played. She got deeply disappointed when everyone went home, just me left standing there. I sat down on our stairs outside and just looked at Hera, standing 20 meters from me and looked back. We saw eachother deep in eachothers eyes and very slowly my lovely Hera started to walk toward me. She arrived in front of me and started to LICK ME INSIDE OF MY NOSE!

We had many similar plays but at that time I didn't feel frustration, she wasn't a labrador! The greatest of all is after Hera plenty of Tibetan Terriers came into my life, but none of them have ever managed such achievements like Heras.
THANK YOU HERA, for having enriched my life!

TO HAVE YOUR FIRST TIBETAN TERRIER IS NOT ALWAYS EASY :)

I will now tell you about one of Heras achievements, there were lots of them especially when she was a teenager.

There was a saturday afternoon like all others, Hera was 9 months old. I thought I would walk to the Zoo-shop and buy some bones for Hera and Alice (sheltien). But that wasn't Heras idea, she wanted to stay at home. It all started when she refused to let me put the leash on her. I won that fight, so I thought she would follow.

FORGET IT! She walked four steps outside and than sat down. When I had hauled her for 2 minutes she laid down on her back with HER LEGS RIGHT UP IN THE AIR!! I thought, oh my God! she can't win this! I will walk to the shop and buy bones as planned.

So, I tried to get her up so we could continue our walk but Hera was not in the mood. She refused. Than I went stubborn like her! I started to walk while Hera was laying down with her legs in the air. After a while I tried again to raise her up, but she was stubborn like me! People just stared at us!

People gave us plenty of commentaries, like;
"can you not see that your dog is ill?" or "how can you treat your dog like that?" I promise you that Hera understood what people said to me! She liked the situation, I could see!
The owner of the shop knew us and Heras achievements. She could see us slowly approach. I were almost in front of the shop when a lady started to shout at me; if I didn't lift my sick dog from the street and take her to a vet she would call the police. What to do?
Well, I was just quiet at start, then I took a deep breath, then I tried to speak, but forget it. I tried to go in to the shop but the lady followed me, still shouting about how I was abusing my dog.

The point is when we came into the shop, Hera suddenly got her life back and took a pigs ear from a basket. The shouting lady calmed down and wanted to pat Hera. But Hera didn't like that, she thought the lady would steal her pig ear. So I got another telling-off about angry dogs. Now I exploded and told the lady that Hera was a Tibetan Terrier and a teenager and what that means. Finally the lady got quiet and she left the shop. The owner of the shop just laughed!

At that time I was totally exhausted and the Sheltie Alice too. But Hera was alert! I payed and went home. Hera had forgotten to be stubborn, she had her pig ear and walked happily to our home.

I fell asleep when we arrived home. I told myself that this will never be repeated. But it showed that I could just forget it!

Thank you Hera because you tought me how a Tibetan Terrier can act!
